Soft-tissue tumors

Fibrous hamartoma of infancy

Soft tissueBenignFibroblastic / myofibroblastic tumours

Epidemiology

A benign lesion of infants and young children that is usually located in the subcutaneous tissue or superficial soft-tissue planes. In infants, the priority is to confirm the diagnosis with the least possible harm to growing tissues.

Basic features

It may be felt as a firm, poorly defined mass, made up of a mix of fat, fibrous tissue, and an immature component.

Usual treatment

Local removal is considered if it grows, causes discomfort, or the diagnosis is uncertain; in typical lesions the approach is individualized.

Outcomes and prognosis

The course is favorable; local recurrences are possible if residual tissue is left behind.

This information is general and does not replace a medical evaluation. A musculoskeletal tumor must be interpreted together with imaging, physical examination, biopsy when appropriate and each patient's context.

Specialist evaluation

If you have a mass, a bone lesion or a report suggesting a tumor, book an evaluation.
