Epidemiology

It mainly affects children, adolescents, and young adults. Night pain that clearly improves with anti-inflammatory medication is a useful clinical clue before confirming the nidus on imaging.

Basic features

A small tumor with characteristic night pain, often relieved by anti-inflammatory medication.

Usual treatment

The pain can usually be controlled with anti-inflammatory medication and, over time, the lesion may even resolve on its own; when the pain is intolerable, CT-guided percutaneous ablation of the nidus resolves most cases.

Outcomes and prognosis

Rapid pain relief when the nidus is treated completely. Percutaneous radiofrequency ablation has a high success rate, with low recurrence; it does not become malignant.

This information is general and does not replace a medical evaluation. A musculoskeletal tumor must be interpreted together with imaging, physical examination, biopsy when appropriate and each patient's context.

Specialist evaluation

If you have a mass, a bone lesion or a report suggesting a tumor, book an evaluation.
