Soft-tissue tumors

Rhabdomyoma

Soft tissueBenignSkeletal muscle tumours

Epidemiology

A benign tumor of skeletal muscle, rare in extracardiac soft tissue. Its name resembles that of rhabdomyosarcoma, but they are different diseases: this one is benign and does not spread.

Basic features

Soft-tissue rhabdomyoma very rarely affects the musculoskeletal system; its appearance as a mass in a limb, the pelvis, or the chest wall is exceptional and makes it necessary to confirm that it is not a rhabdomyosarcoma.

Usual treatment

Complete local resection is usually curative and is indicated for symptoms, growth, or the need to confirm the diagnosis.

Outcomes and prognosis

It does not metastasize and has an excellent prognosis; local recurrence is uncommon after complete resection.

This information is general and does not replace a medical evaluation. A musculoskeletal tumor must be interpreted together with imaging, physical examination, biopsy when appropriate and each patient's context.

Specialist evaluation

If you have a mass, a bone lesion or a report suggesting a tumor, book an evaluation.
