Epidemiology

A usually benign tumor that, in the musculoskeletal system, can appear in subcutaneous tissue or in deeper planes. Although it is usually benign, a deep lesion of the limb, pelvis, or chest wall that grows or hurts requires stricter study.

Basic features

It is generally a small, firm nodule; rare malignant variants grow quickly or recur.

Usual treatment

Local removal is usual if it causes symptoms or to confirm the diagnosis.

Outcomes and prognosis

Most cases do very well; malignant lesions are exceptional and are managed like a sarcoma.

This information is general and does not replace a medical evaluation. A musculoskeletal tumor must be interpreted together with imaging, physical examination, biopsy when appropriate and each patient's context.

Specialist evaluation

If you have a mass, a bone lesion or a report suggesting a tumor, book an evaluation.
